This is a trope, but I guess everyone gets there at their own pace. I used to think experiences are fleeting, and ownership is permanent. Apparently my view has been sneakily shifting over the last couple of decades, because I discovered yesterday that I believe the opposite may be true.

I’m probably just getting older, but moving countries has also had its influence. Moving from masonry structures that seem very solid, to living in houses made of sticks that shake when you walk has changed how I view property. Many of my other belongings like cars, books, furniture, language or culture are long gone, replaced by other stuff.

Throughout all this what does remain is memories of experiences. Catastrophic memory failure aside, those are the portable, sticky things that I tend always carry with me.
